Dr. Thomas McCarter Brings Senior Clinical Expertise and Leadership to Enhance the Technology-Enabled Active Management of Care

FORT LEE, N.J.–(Marketwired – June 10, 2015) – TEAM of Care Solutions, LLC, a leading developer of care coordination and care team collaboration software, today announced the addition of Thomas McCarter, MD, FACP, FCPP, as the organization’s first chief medical officer. Dr. McCarter has a unique mix of clinical and senior executive experience as a hospital administrator, health plan administrator, and commercial business leader. In his role as CMO, Dr. McCarter will lead the clinical direction for TEAM of Care, particularly for its active care coordination workflows and algorithms. These models form the software infrastructure for healthcare organizations participating in fee-for-value contracts that depend on collaboration and performance across the continuum of care. Dr. McCarter joins TEAM of Care from Executive Health Resources® (EHR), an Optum™ company, where he served as chief clinical officer. While at EHR, Dr. McCarter lead research and development, education, training and quality assurance programs for the organization’s nearly 1000 physicians working to assist in adjudicating more than 10 million clinical transactions for more than 2,500 hospitals across the United States. Prior to joining EHR, Dr. McCarter served as senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer of Main Line Health System (MLHS), a five-hospital system located in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Dr. McCarter joined MLHS after serving as vice president of medical affairs for Tenet Health System’s Pennsylvania Region, an eight-hospital system with two affiliated medical schools, a private health plan, and several full risk contracts. “I have known and worked with Dr. McCarter for more than 15 years. Dr. McCarter is a board-certified internist with significant hospital and outpatient clinical experience in both academic and community settings. He earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine and bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead-Cain Scholar. He completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania and at Geisinger Medical Center, where he served for two consecutive years as Chief Medical Resident and completed a fellowship with the Geisinger Health Plan. He has served on the teaching faculty at Geisinger, the University of Pennsylvania, the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Hahnemann University Hospital and Drexel University School of Medicine. He has served on several boards and committees overseeing utilization and quality for payers (including Blue Cross, Aetna, and Health Partners), hospitals, physician groups and other healthcare organizations.
